Simba SC storm into Mapinduzi Cup final

What you need to know:

  • The winners of the competition will take home Sh100 million, while the runners-up will be awarded Sh70 million

Dar es Salaam. Football giants in the country, Simba SC, will now face defending champions Mlandege FC in the 2024 Mapinduzi Cup final scheduled to take place this Saturday on January 13, 2024, at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.

Simba SC qualified for the final after recording a 3-2 victory on penalties over Singida Fountain Gate FC on January 10, 2024, at the same venue.

The match started at 8.15 pm and saw Singida Fountain Gate FC score in the 11th minute through Elvis Lupia after a good pass from Marouf Tchakei, who capitalised on the mistake made by Simba defender Kennedy Juma.

However, the encounter was marred by chaos as Singida Fountain Gate FC players opposed the decision of the referee to award Simba a corner kick during the added time. The players claimed that the ball was out before their goalkeeper, Ibrahim Parapanda caught it.

The team players surrounded the match referee, Nasir Siyah Msomali, who maintained his previous decision that made the Msimbazi Street giants equalise through Fabrice Ngoma, following a well-taken corner kick by Saido Ntibazonkiza.

During penalty shootouts, Simba goalkeeper Ally Salum was man of the match after saving three penalties out of five. He saved the penalties taken by Gadiel Michael, Hamad Waziri, and Middie Kagere while Deus Kaseke and Duke Abuya scored theirs.

Luis Miquissone, Israel Mwenda, and Moses Phiri scored penalties for SImba, while teammates Shomari Kapombe and Saido Ntibanzokiza missed.

The winners of the competition will take home Sh100 million, while the runners-up will be awarded Sh70 million.
