Dar es Salaam. Dar es Salaam Swimming Club (DSC) coaches have been satisfied with the performance of young swimmers during a competition held at Dar es Salaam International Academy (DIA).
The event featured more than 80 club swimmers who competed in all four swimming styles supervised by the technical department of the club.
The swimmers competed in freestyle, backstrokes, breaststrokes, and Individual Medley (IM) in the thrilling competitions whereby the winners were awarded various special prizes.
Dar Swim Club coach, Michael Livingstone said the event is normally conducted to gauge talent for their swimmers before closing the training sessions ahead of summer camp.
Livingstone said there were different age groups in the event in the competition.
“We have many swimmers starting from one year known as starfish which sees the young swimmers swim at least 15 meters across the swimming pool, most of them are beginners.
Our aim is to make the game popular and familiar to everyone,” said Livingstone.
He explained that after Learn to swim, young swimmers will be upgraded to the next level. “Our aim is to see the game is developed and many youth practice and compete.
“We want to produce competitive swimmers in the country as well as world class wimmers,” he said. He said currently they have prominent swimmers who do well in domestic and international championship s.
“We are proud for that as some of the swimmers managed to shine in the national championship and the club managed to produce the top female swimmer, Sonia Tumiotto who broke 10 national swimming records. Sonia is now in England studying at St Felix College after securing scholarship because of her excellence in the sport.
Livingstone also called all parents to allow their children to train swimming.
“Dar Swim Club is ready to accommodate the swimmers who want to join and learn how to swim, we are encouraging them to turn up,” he said.
