Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania national football team, Taifa Stars, will play its second match of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifiers against Guinea today.
The Group H match is scheduled to take place at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium, also known as Yamoussoukro, in Cote d’Ivoire at 7 p.m. East Africa Time.
In their first Group H match, Taifa Stars drew 0-0 with Ethiopia at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
The result was met with criticism from football stakeholders who were dissatisfied with the team’s defensive approach at home.
Taifa Stars head coach, Hemed “Morocco” Suleiman, said that all players are in top shape ahead of the match and are determined to do their best.
Morocco mentioned that the team has prepared well and expects strong opposition from Guinea, who lost 1-0 in their first match against DR Congo.
He noted that they have addressed the mistakes from their previous match and are confident they will capitalize on scoring opportunities against Guinea.
“We are up against a tough team and we understand it will be challenging as they are also aiming for victory, but we will not just defend; we will attack from the start while being cautious in defense,” said Morocco.
He added that Taifa Stars are focused on qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals, and winning matches is essential to achieving that goal.
Currently, DR Congo leads the group with three points, while Taifa Stars and Ethiopia have one point each, placing them second and third, respectively. Guinea is at the bottom of the table without any points.
