Dar es Salaam. Three of Tanzania’s prominent golfers are optimistic about performing well in the prestigious Clutch Tour Tier 1 Tournament, which tees off tomorrow and runs until March 20 at Al Ain in Dubai.
The golfers are Nuru Mollel, Fadhil Nkya, and Isiaka Dunia who earned their spots through outstanding performances in the Lina PG Tour 2024 Order of Merit. Also on the list is veteran golfer Mzee Said Nkya.
The golfers have safely arrived in Dubai and are ready to battle against elite competitors in the prestigious tournament.
Lina PG Tour Director Yasmin Challi expressed confidence in the team, noting that the golfers are in high spirits and prepared for the challenge.
“Our team has landed safely and had a great training session at the course.
The players are focused, and we are confident they will give their best,” said Challi. The 54-hole tournament will have a cut after 36 holes, meaning only the top 50 players and ties will advance to the final round. The competition is expected to be intense, with many top-ranked golfers vying for a share of the £50,000 prize pool and crucial world ranking points.
Tanzania’s participation in the Clutch Tour is part of the ‘Journey to Dubai’ initiative, designed to expose local professionals and elite amateurs to international-level competition. Nkya, who emerged as the Lina PG Tour Order of Merit winner, is a captain the team.
“This is a massive opportunity for our golfers to showcase their talent on a global stage.
Competing in this kind of event not only builds their confidence but also opens doors for future international tournaments,” said Chali.
Beyond the immediate competition, the tournament carries significant ranking points—Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points for professionals and World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points for amateurs—making it a vital stepping stone for Tanzanian golfers aiming for global recognition
