Dar es Salaam. Renowned U.S. swimming coach and film actor, Atiba Wade, is set to lead a high-level swimming training program in Tanzania from June 27 to July 7.
Wade, known for his roles in major Hollywood films as stuntman in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), Kaleidoscope (2023), and Pride (2007), will conduct the training in collaboration with Champion Rise Sports Promoters.
Speaking yesterday, Amina Mfaume, Director of Champion Rise Sports Promoters, said the program will begin with a swimmers' clinic from June 27 to June 30, followed by an internationally accredited coaching course from July 1 to July 7.
She added that both swimmers and coaches are required to register through the official website championrise.co.tz/event, and that registration is currently open.
“This initiative will begin with a swimmers’ clinic, where young athletes will benefit directly from Coach Wade’s expertise in refining their techniques and boosting performance,” said Amina.
“Following the clinic, we will launch the coaches' course, which offers a rare opportunity for local coaches to access internationally recognized training.”
Amina highlighted that the coaching course is certified by the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) and is designed to elevate the standards of swimming coaching in Tanzania.
“The course includes comprehensive training on swimming techniques, coaching philosophies, athlete development, and sports psychology,” she noted.
She emphasized Coach Wade’s reputation as an expert in high-performance training and modern coaching methods. In addition to being ASCA-certified, Wade brings a unique combination of experience from both elite sports and the film industry, having worked with various global celebrities.
“Coaches attending this program will gain valuable insights into enhancing athlete performance using a variety of modern training methodologies,” Amina explained.
“We are excited to host this ASCA-certified coaching course and elite swimmers’ clinic here in Tanzania. It is both an honor and a rare opportunity for our local swimming community to learn from a world-class figure like Coach Wade,” she added.
Amina reaffirmed Champion Rise Sports Promoters' commitment to advancing the sport of swimming in Tanzania to international standards, noting that this initiative is part of a long-term vision to nurture talent and build coaching capacity nationwide.
