Dar es Salaam. After outshining their bitter rivals, Simba SC, defending champions Young Africans (Yanga) today face the acid test of Coastal Union of Tanga at the Mkwakwani Stadium.
The match, which has been scheduled to kick off at 6.30pm, is expected to be the most thrilling one following the status of the two teams in the league standings.
Yanga who last Sunday recorded a 5-1 victory over Simba at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, are expected to keep their winning note in order to dominate the top position.
The Jangwani Street side are at the top with 21 points from eight matches while Coastal Union, who also target victory, are placed 13th with seven points from eight matches.
Yanga’s victory in the encounter will make them collect 24 points at the pilot seat while Coastal Union will go up the 10th place if they win the match.
In the first leg held on January 16 at the Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga, Yanga won 2-0. However, Coastal Union head Coach Fikiri Elias said their main target is to collect all the three points and continue to improve their chance in the league log. Elias said they have rectified all of their mistakes and believes they will win the encounter over Yanga. He said they are now well-focused and want their team to return to their winning streak.
“Every team are focusing on good results, we have prepared well our players ahead of the match and believe we will come out with a positive result. We respect Yanga as the defending champions and one of the league giants in the country. So, it is not going to be an easy match,” said Elias.
Yanga head coach Miguel Gamondi said they are facing a tough match duel due to the fact that Coastal Union are also one of the tough teams in the league. Gamondi said his players are in good shape despite coming from playing tough league matches.
“We played against Azam FC and later against Singida Fountain Gate and last Sunday against Simba, my players faced a tough fixture, but that is not a reason to lose the game, we are ready for the clash,” said Gamondi.
