Dar es Salaam. Young Africans (Yanga) striker Prince Dube has expressed immense satisfaction after scoring against his former club, Azam FC, to help secure a victory in the Community Shield encounter.
Yanga humiliated Azam FC with a 4-1 triumph, where Dube played a crucial role by scoring the equalizer in the 19th minute after receiving a well-timed pass from Mudathir Yahaya.
The goal marked Dube's second for Yanga, with his first coming in the Mpumalanga International Cup in South Africa, where Yanga secured a 1-0 win against TS Galaxy.
Yanga's second goal came as a result of an own goal by Azam's defender, Yoro Diaby, who inadvertently deflected a dangerous cross from Yanga’s newly recruited left-back, Shadrack Boka, into his own net.
The unfortunate event occurred in the 30th minute, giving Yanga a 2-1 lead and further demoralizing Azam FC's defense.
The third goal for Yanga was scored in added time of the first half. It came from a powerful strike by Burkinabe attacking midfielder, Stephane Aziz Ki.
Positioned on the right flank, Aziz Ki unleashed a thunderous shot that deflected off former Yanga defender Yannick Bangala, leaving Azam's goalkeeper with no chance to make a save.
As the match neared its conclusion, Yanga delivered the final blow to Azam FC by scoring a fourth goal during added time.
Clement Mzize, who had entered the game as a substitute, completed a precise pass from Clatous Chama to seal the 4-1 victory. Azam FC's lone goal was scored by Feisal “Fei Toto” Salum in the 13th minute.
Reflecting on his controversial move to Yanga, which was marred by contract disputes, Dube stressed that his decision to join the Jangwani Street giants was not for personal glory but to contribute to the team's success.
He detailed that every footballer aspires to win silverware and pledged to work hard to achieve success with his new club.
"After Azam FC scored in the 13th minute, I didn't feel pressured because I knew there were still many minutes left to play.
We were dominating the game even after conceding, and that’s why we increased the pace and equalized after being set up by Mudathir Yahya.
What Mudathir did for me today is the same as what he used to do when we played together at Azam FC.
He would often set me up for goals, and I believe what worked for us at Azam FC will also work here at Yanga," said Dube.
For his part, Aziz Ki said that commitment is the key to the team's success so far.
As the reigning Mainland Tanzania Premier League Most Valuable Player (MVP), Aziz Ki stressed the strong sense of responsibility that Yanga players feel towards their fans.
He noted that every player on the team is fully aware of the expectations placed upon them, and this understanding drives them to give their all in every match.
"We know exactly what our fans expect from us, and that’s why we play with such intensity and determination," said Aziz Ki.
"Our dream is not just to win games, but to elevate Yanga to be the best team on the continent. We’re not playing for individual glory; we’re playing for the team, for the club, and for our supporters."
Aziz Ki also said “We are hungry for more success, and we are confident that with our hard work and dedication, we will bring more silverware to the club," he added.
