Yanga boss Gamondi content with Champions League draw despite missed opportunities

Kumasi. Young Africans head coach Miguel Gamondi has expressed satisfaction with his team's 1-1 draw against Medeama in the CAF Champions League despite the missed opportunities to secure a win.

"While I am satisfied with the draw, we clearly wanted and deserved the victory," Gamondi stated after the match. "We dominated the game and have areas where we can still improve."

Gamondi's team faced a Medeama side boosted by their home win against Algerian giants CS Belouizdad in their previous group encounter. He acknowledged the performance of their opponents, saying, "They fought hard and gave their best in a very tough group."

The draw in Group D leaves everything open after leaders Al Ahly were held to a goalless draw by Belouizdad in Alexandria.

This result keeps Yanga's qualification hopes alive, as they sit just two points behind the top three with two games remaining.

Gamondi highlighted his team's spirited comeback after conceding a penalty to Jonathan Mensah, emphasizing their positive trajectory. "We are learning from mistakes made in previous matches and showing improvement," the Mexican coach stressed. "With time, the team will truly come into its own."

He also acknowledged the unwavering support from Young Africans fans, recognizing their appreciation for the team's fighting spirit. "Our fans see that the players are giving their all, and we will continue on this path," Gamondi added.

Yanga now prepare for the second leg against Medeama on December 20th in Dar es Salaam, aiming to secure their place in the knockout stage.

Based on their performance in Kumasi, they will head into the home fixture full of confidence despite settling for a draw in Ghana.
