Dar es Salaam. Tanzanian football giants Young Africans (Yanga SC) have officially clinched their 31st Mainland Tanzania Premier League title following a 2-0 victory over archrivals Simba SC in a highly anticipated clash at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium today, June 25, 2025.
Yanga’s triumph sees them finish the 2024/25 season with 82 points from 30 matches, outpacing Simba who conclude the campaign with 78 points from the same number of games.
The match lived up to its billing as a title decider and did not disappoint the thousands of fans in attendance.
The breakthrough came in the 66th minute when Yanga’s Ivorian midfielder Pacome Zouzoua was fouled inside the penalty area by Simba goalkeeper Mousa Camara.
Egyptian international referee Amin Mohamed Amin Omar did not hesitate to award a penalty, which Pacome confidently converted to give Yanga a 1-0 lead.
As Simba pressed forward in search of an equalizer, Yanga remained composed and disciplined.
Their persistence paid off again in the 85th minute when Pacome, once more at the center of action, delivered a well-timed pass to young forward Clement Mzize, who calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 and seal the title.
This victory further extends Yanga’s recent dominance over Simba in major competitions.
It marks the fifth consecutive win for Yanga against their traditional rivals in both the Mainland Premier League and Federation Cup.
Simba’s last win in this fierce rivalry dates back to August 13, 2023, when they edged Yanga 1-0.
Since then, Yanga have asserted their superiority with a 5-1 thrashing on November 5, 2023, a 2-1 win on April 20, 2024, and back-to-back 1-0 victories on August 8 and October 19, 2024.
Today’s 2-0 result completes the streak and reinforces Yanga’s recent dominance in Tanzanian football.
Yanga’s success this season has been built on strong tactical discipline, squad depth, and clinical performances in key matches.
The team’s consistency and ability to deliver when it matters most have rightfully earned them another championship and secured their status as the most successful football club in Tanzania’s history.
