Yanga trim squad: Moloko departs, Konkon loaned out
Dar es Salaam. Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga) have announced the release of midfielder Jesus Moloko and the impending loan of striker Hafiz Konkon, streamlining their squad for the remainder of the NBC Premier League season.
Moloko, a key figure in Yanga's recent success, joined the club in 2021 from AS Vita in DR Congo. He played a crucial role in various competitions, contributing significantly to the Jangwani Street side's achievements.
Despite his contract running until May 2024, both parties mutually agreed to terminate it early, paving the way for Moloko's return to DR Congo.
"It is true that I have agreed with the Yanga management to leave," Moloko confirmed. "I thank the leaders and fans for the life I lived with them. I had three good seasons with Yanga, and I have lived well with my teammates, officials, and the fans. I wish them all the best in the competitions."
Augustine Okrah, a recent recruit from Ghana's Bechem United, has already filled Moloko's midfield position.
Yanga officials expressed their gratitude to Moloko for his dedication and wished him well in his future endeavors.
Meanwhile, Hafiz Konkon, who joined Yanga from Bechem at the beginning of the season, will be loaned to another NBC Premier League club in a finalized deal.
The Ghanaian striker, however, expressed reservations about the loan, citing his desire to pursue professional opportunities in Cyprus for a short period before returning.
"I didn't want to leave Yanga," Konkon admitted. "But for the safety of my career, I had to make those decisions. I will wait until the big window to pursue my goals."
Yanga's squad adjustments aim to optimize their performance for the remaining league matches. With Moloko's departure and Konkon's temporary absence, the club is looking to other players to step up and contribute to their title aspirations.
