Enjoy a world class education at Braeburn Arusha

What you need to know:

  • The British exam board, Edexcel has awarded the school a silver certificate as being one of the best vocational training centres in the world

Braeburn International School Arusha is one of East Africa’s best kept secrets: a relatively small school, hidden just 14 km outside Arusha, in the tiny village of Kisongo, its achievements have been recognized four years running on the international stage.

The British exam board, Edexcel has awarded the school a silver certificate as being one of the best vocational training centres in the world and three of its students and one of its teachers over the last four years have achieved international recognition as the best students or teachers in the world, within their field of study. It is an incredible and inspiring place to be.

Perhaps that’s why people from around the world have started to sign up to this hidden gem of a school and in the last year, students have been enrolled from the UK, Hong Kong, Brunei and Papua New Guinea, as well as from our neighbouring East African countries of Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.

And our boarding house is set up to support these students from far-away places: it picks students up from the airport or from the Kenyan border; organizes student permits and puts on activities over the half terms–so that students don’t have to go home for each of the smaller breaks.

During the October half term students could opt to play football in Barcelona at a school’s world cup tournament; during the February half term, students can opt to go to the Model United Nations in Nairobi or a beach holiday to Mombasa and during the May half term our students have the opportunity to visit Karatu on the edge of the Ngorogoro crater to explore one of Tanzania’s spectacular National Parks.

Students who live too far away to go back during the 3 weeks Easter break can also join the school trip to the UK where they can opt to go football training or sight-seeing in London.

Trips like this prepare our students for the worlds they will enter when they go to university. And everyone gets the offer of a realistic university place. Infact, we guarantee it when we take our sixth formers on, and you don’t need to be the brightest or the best to get this guarantee.

We find a pathway for everyone – whether academically gifted or not because we believe that everyone can be successful at something – we just need to support each individual to find their special gift. In the words of Einstein: ‘Everyone is a genius.

But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.’ We pride ourselves in finding the genius in everyone.

This means we offer a wide range of subjects so that each individual can find their strengths and create their own individualized programmes of learning. In fact our programmes are so individualized, students can enroll in January, April or August! And they can study from a huge range of subjects including: A levels in Maths, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Art and Design, Sociology, Psychology, History, Geography, French and Spanish alongside practical BTECs in Business, Hospitality, Engineering, Health and Social Care, Sport, Music Production, Music Performance, Performing Arts; Creative Media Production or Art and Design.

These in turn can be combined with some IGCSE courses such as those who want to learn a new language and get recognition for or for those who want to learn through an apprenticeship and get recognition for their work experience.

Some students want to apply to American Universities and so we put on ACT classes, others want to study for their IELTs so that they can get a visa to the country of their choice, so we organise classes for these additional sessions too.

Flexibility and individual programmes is at the core of our curriculum. Add to this the one-to-one career’s guidance and support with university applications and you can see why all our students go onto be successful.

And then when you leave us – we don’t forget you. We have a very successful alumni programme where we keep in touch with our students after they have gone. We link them up with other Braeburn students in the countries they are going to – and we have our Braeburn students in over 22 different countries of the world – so they will always feel they have a friend close by.

And then we continue to guide and support our students when they have left university. With a strong network of alumni willing to offer internships when our students return, we can ensure each of them get the much-needed work experience and reference needed to enter the job market. And this is priceless.

We also encourage our alumni to support each other in networking and in creating their businesses across East Africa. And so when a student joins Braeburn Arusha, they get much more than just an education, they are prepared to be successful in the world – they get a truly world-class education.
