Civil servants urged to guard state secrets

Unguja. Public service employees have been urged to uphold discipline, professionalism, integrity, and accountability as they carry out their duties, in line with public service regulations, to ensure effective and timely performance.
This call was made by the Director of the Public Service and Operations Department at the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture, and Sports, Rashid Makame Hamdu during a training session on labor laws for civil servants.
"If employees adhere to the service regulations by maintaining discipline, professionalism, integrity, and accountability, it will foster confidence in their work and improve overall efficiency," said Rashid.
He also emphasized the importance of employees fulfilling their roles to achieve the desired objectives.
The Director further stressed the need for all public servants to observe health and safety standards, understand potential risks in their work environment, and be conscious of office conditions.
During his presentation on labor laws, Yahya Saleh Salim pointed out that failing to comply with the laws and public service guidelines constitutes a breach of ethical standards and professional conduct. As such, all employees are required to work in accordance with the existing laws.
He also cautioned that civil servants should not disclose confidential government information to unauthorized persons, as this would be an ethical violation.
Additionally, Yahya urged the employees to uphold high ethical standards and ensure they meet the performance requirements outlined in the regulations, including completing their tasks on time.
Mustafa Khamis Simai, a Welfare Officer from the Office of the President, Constitution, Legal Affairs, Public Service, and Good Governance, reinforced that it is every public servant's responsibility to undergo regular performance assessments to ensure they receive their entitlements.

Simai also advised the employees to avoid actions that could harm their reputation, including engaging in financial behaviors, such as incurring debts they cannot repay.
