Othman Masoud pledges to restore clove industry benefits to farmers

Pemba. ACT Wazalendo presidential candidate for Zanzibar, Othman Masoud, has vowed to prioritize reforms in the clove sector if elected in the upcoming polls, saying farmers must finally reap the full benefits of the crop that has long defined the Isles’ economy.

Speaking while campaigning in Chokokocho village, Pemba, Othman said it was time for Zanzibaris to break free from what he described as decades of economic injustice in which farmers have been denied fair returns from cloves despite the crop’s high global value.

“For many years we have been denied our rights. Cloves have been highly valued around the world, but their benefits have never reached the farmers. Those who have exploited our farmers do not deserve to continue leading us. The time for change is now,” he declared.

Masoud outlined his plan to strengthen the clove sector by introducing modern farming systems, supporting farm preparation with technical expertise, and safeguarding producer prices to ensure profits flow directly to growers in both Pemba and Unguja.

He also called on voters to unite behind ACT Wazalendo in the October elections, arguing that only a new government could bring dignity, accountability, and genuine development to Zanzibar.

“My brothers and sisters, let us not make mistakes. Choose ACT Wazalendo, choose me, Othman Masoud, so that we can form a new government—one that respects its people, listens to them, and delivers real progress. Cloves are our economy, and this economy must return to the hands of the people,” he said.

The campaign event drew an enthusiastic crowd, with villagers pledging their support for ACT Wazalendo in the Isles.
