Zanzibar. The XDC Network, in partnership with LedgerFi, has launched Zanzibar’s National Blockchain Sandbox, a new initiative aimed at advancing blockchain technology and digital governance in Africa.
The sandbox is designed to support startups in developing blockchain-based solutions, positioning Zanzibar as a leader in regional tech innovation.
The sandbox, developed by LedgerFi and powered by the XDC Network, provides startups with a platform to test applications across areas such as financial inclusion, identity verification, and decentralised infrastructure. This controlled environment allows innovators to refine their solutions before scaling them to broader markets.
In a recent discussion, LedgerFi CEO Vinay Krishna asked the Director General of Zanzibar’s e-Government Authority, Mr Said Seif Said, how the sandbox aligns with the region’s digital vision.
Mr Said responded that the sandbox offers a “secure environment” for innovators to develop and deploy blockchain solutions, adding that the collaboration aims to make Zanzibar a leader in digital governance and blockchain technology.
The latter said: “The blockchain network sandbox is designed to be a secure experimental environment where innovators can develop, test, and deploy blockchain-based solutions for real-world applications.” The sandbox, he said, aligns with Zanzibar’s wider goals of fostering digital transformation in sectors like financial technology. By providing a safe space for testing, it is expected to attract venture capital, supporting startups as they aim for both local and international markets.
According to Mr Said, this collaboration highlights the potential of technology partnerships to drive Web3 solutions for Africa.
“By integrating advanced blockchain technology with forward-thinking infrastructure, we aim to transform the delivery and experience of financial services,” he said.
With the XDC Network’s secure infrastructure, Zanzibar’s blockchain sandbox is set to attract technology investment and accelerate innovation, positioning Zanzibar as a significant player in Africa’s digital economy.
