Zanzibar to allow tourism businesses to obtain licenses throughout the year

Dar es Salaam. The Zanzibar Commission for Tourism (ZCT) has made a change in the validity period of licences issued to tourism related businesses in the isles.
With immediate effect, the shift to a 12-month duration from the date of issue will allow tourism businesses to obtain their licences at any time throughout the year, with subsequent renewals falling on the date of the original issuance.
According to ZCT Executive Secretary, Ms Hafsa Mbamba, the change will simplify the renewal process, eliminate administrative burdens, and allow businesses to operate without interruption.
In a statement issued to the public, Ms Mbamba said the decision comes as part of the ZCT's ongoing commitment to enhance operational efficiency, promote ease of doing business, and accommodate the evolving needs of tourism businesses in Zanzibar.
She said that by implementing the new licencing policy, the ZCT aims to streamline administrative processes, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and encourage a more flexible business environment for tourism operators.
"We believe that this change will provide our valued tourism operators with more flexibility, enable them to focus on delivering exceptional experiences to visitors, and contribute to the growth of Zanzibar's tourism industry. By eliminating the need for simultaneous licence renewals and staggering renewal dates throughout the year, we anticipate smoother operations, reduced paperwork, and increased efficiency for all stakeholders involved," the statement reads in part.
The ZCT said tourism operators that the licencing criteria and standards will remain rigorous, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and promoting responsible tourism practices; "As a destination known for its rich cultural heritage, pristine beaches, and captivating landscapes, Zanzibar continues to prioritise sustainable tourism development, environmental conservation, and the well-being of local communities."
