Airports authority’s new boss appointed

The appointment follows the death of the authority’s director general, Mr Suleiman Said Suleiman, who died on January 18, this year after he got drowned while swimming across the Kigamboni Channel.
Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) now has a new director general.
He is Mr George Sambali who, prior to his appointment yesterday by Infrastructure, Transport and Communications Minister, Prof Makame Mbarawa, was the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) director general.
The appointment follows the death of the authority’s director general, Mr Suleiman Said Suleiman, who died on January 18, this year after he got drowned while swimming across the Kigamboni Channel.
Mr Sambali was appointed on January 20, according to a statement that was aviled to The Citizen in the city yesterday.
Mr Sambali was born in 1965, in Tanga Region and holds a Master’s degree (MSc) in Transport and Road Engineering which he received in the Netherlands in 2001.
Prior to that, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam in 1995. The new TAA director general has also attained several certificates from both local and international aviation courses including a Certificate in Airport Executive Leadership that was awarded to him in Montreal, Canada, in 2014.
In 2015 he was awarded a Post-graduate Diploma in International Airports Professional (AIP) in Canada.
Mr Sambali was employed by TAA in 2011 as a manager responsible for design, planning and evaluation where he worked until 2012 before he was appointed the deputy director for technician and engineering services. In 2013, he was appointed a special advisor to the director general before going the ladder up to become the JNIA director general in 2015.
