TÜV Rheinland Extends 3-Year PVoC Contract with Tanzania Bureau of Standards, Expanding to New Zones & Facilitating Market Entry and Global Trade

On Feb 20th, 2025, TÜV Rheinland renewed the contract with Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) for another three years. The contract authorizes TÜV Rheinland to issue Certificates of Conformity (CoC) for the Tanzanian Pre-shipment Verification of Conformity (PvoC) Program.

With this agreement TBS expands the service scope for TÜV Rheinland to include the zones: United Kingdom (Wales, Scotland, Ireland, England), and the Indian Subcontinent (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Myanmar).

The authorized body has further received re-confirmation for two zones that TÜV Rheinland has been serving for the past two years: United Arab Emirates and Far East (Japan, Korea South, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia).

Pertaining to this re-appointment, Mr. Fares Naouri, Senior Vice President Government Inspections and International Trade (GIIT), underscored the importance of the same; “Tanzania, a pivotal trade hub and strategic market within the East African region, is central to our operations. Through our Pre-Export Verification of Conformity services, we are committed to helping to protect the Tanzanian consumer from inferior products and to ensure that imported goods adhere to both the national and international standards.”

In its ongoing efforts to strengthen the PVoC framework, TBS has reinforced collaboration with experienced assessment bodies. As a result, TÜV Rheinland has been commissioned with a renewed mandate to issue the mandatory Certificate of Conformity (CoC) for regulated goods, reinforcing consumer safety, market confidence, and seamless global trade.

Mrs. Valerie Wagner, Head of New Markets and Global Projects – GIIT stated “Thanks to our extensive global network, a specially designed IT platform, comprehensive procedures, and deep expertise, TÜV Rheinland was able to strengthen the collaboration with TBS, along with the confidence of both exporters and importers. This renewed mandate reaffirms our commitment to ensuring seamless trade and compliance with the highest standards”.

The PVOC program has been in place since 2012 with its aim to protect consumers from substandard products and ensure the quality and safety of imported products in the Tanzanian market. It comes with a diversified list of regulated products such as automotive, chemical, electrical & electronics, food products, furniture, mechanical material, gas appliances, paper products, stationery, safety products, toys, sports equipment and used products.  As for the prohibited and exempted lists, they remain unchanged.
