What Oryx’s Sh1 billion investment in cooking gas cylinders means
Dar es Salaam. Oryx Gas has distributed a total of 15,000 cylinders worth Sh1 billion during the past one year as it seeks to play a key role in the advancement of clean cooking energy options in the country.
The move aims to reduce the health calamities associated with the use of solid biomass energy for cooking in Tanzania’s household.
Speaking during an event to distribute 900 gas cylinders and their stoves to women in Rufiji District, the managing director for Oryx Gas Tanzania, Mr Benoit Araman said the investment was in line with the government’s goal of cutting use of solid biomass energy for cooking which also helps the country in its environmental conservation endeavours.
“Using oryx gas for cooking purposes conserves the environment and prevents deforestation. Most importantly, the women and children’s health is protected because smoke produced from use of firewood is detrimental,” he said.
“President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s plan is to ensure all citizens get clean cooking energy by 2032. The company’s plan aims at supporting the president’s initiative,” he added, pledging increased mobilisation and free distribution of gas cylinders to citizens.
