Dar es Salaam. Yara Tanzania is set to introduce a range of animal nutrition products, as the international fertilizer manufacturer eyes to raise livestock productivity in the country.
Yara Tanzania managing director Winstone Odhiambo says that the company will begin selling top of the range animal feed formula in the local market as part of its commitment to raising the fortunes of millions of livestock farmers.
“Yara International produces top quality animal nutrition products that we will be introducing for the first time in the Tanzanian market. We are excited with this new journey and look forward to working closely with livestock and poultry farmers to improve the quantity and quality of milk and beef production in Tanzania,” Mr Odhiambo said.
Coming in the wake of the successful hosting of the Africa Food System Forum (AGRF), from September 4-8, 2023, in Dar es Salaam, Mr Odhiambo noted that the planned launch of animal nutrition in Tanzania demonstrates Yara’s commitment to implementing the desired outcomes of the forum.
One of the themes of the AGRF meeting required stakeholders to take urgent action to address climate change, food waste, and food insecurity before 2030. It called for working together to develop bold policies and programs that support sustainable, resilient and inclusive food systems.
“During the AGRF meeting, Yara showcased its new ambition; ‘Growing a Nature Positive Food Future’, with Prosperity, Regenerative Agriculture and Climate Neutrality as its mission. The introduction of animal nutrition is therefore a commitment by Yara to bring prosperity to millions of livestock keepers throughout the republic.” Mr Odhiambo noted.
According to Mr Odhiambo, Tanzania will be only the third country in Africa to introduce animal nutrition from Yara, coming after South Africa and recently, Kenya. The same products have been in use in the west where they have contributed significantly to the high standards of the multi-million dollar livestock production industry.
He said the launch of the Yara animal nutrition products will take place in Iringa region on September 19, 2023, where the company will expound on the range of products, its advantages of other traditional animal feed and its promise to livestock farmers and other would be partners in the line of business.
Yara Tanzania first hinted of the new line of products coming to the local market on Saturday during the goat race charity event organized by the Rotary Club of Oysterbay in Dar es Salaam. Yara sponsored the charity event to raise funds to the needy in higher learning institutions. The mission by the rotary club is in line with Yara’s stated objective of contributing to the development of more young men and women professional in agronomy.
