‘Faraja ya Tasnia’: A tribute to fallen stars

What you need to know:

  • Faraja ya Tasnia will serve as a platform to acknowledge these artists' profound impact on the entertainment industry and the lives they touched.

In a heartfelt initiative to honour the legacy of beloved Tanzanian artistes who have passed away, actor and chairperson of the Mama Ongea na Mwanao Foundation, Steve Nyerere, is organising a special event titled Faraja ya Tasnia.

Scheduled to take place on September 7, 2024, at the Leaders Club grounds in Dar es Salaam, this annual tribute will be a free event open to the public, aiming to celebrate and remember the contributions of these iconic figures to Tanzania’s cultural heritage.

Steve Nyerere expresses that Faraja ya Tasnia will serve as a platform to acknowledge these artists' profound impact on the entertainment industry and the lives they touched.

“I realised that these artistes were once our colleagues and their families relied on them. It is only fitting that we come together to remember them, share joy, and support their families,” says Steve.

The event will feature a rich array of entertainment, including live performances by bands playing the classic hits of the departed artistes. Attendees will enjoy a day filled with music, reflections, and communal activities.

Notable among the event's offerings is a special segment where the families of the deceased will be honoured with gifts, and a collective meal will be shared to foster a sense of unity and solace.

Spiritual elements will play a vital role in the event, with prayers led by Pastor Boniface Mwamposa of Arise and Shine Ministries and regional Sheikh Walid Alhad Omar, underscoring the event's aim to bring peace and comfort to everyone involved.

Steve emphasises that this gathering is a tribute and a way to strengthen national unity and tranquility through remembrance and solidarity.

Actors and actresses have shared poignant images on their Instagram pages of some of the artistes being honoured, including Mandojo, Mangwair, Bi Kidude, Mzee Majuto, Kanumba, Maunda Zorro, Sajuki, Sharobaro, and others. Each photo captures a piece of their legacy, reminding the public of their significant contributions to Tanzanian arts and culture.

Faraja ya Tasnia is set to become an annual tradition, reflecting the nation's respect and appreciation for its artistic pioneers.
By celebrating these artistes’ lives and works, artistes are not only preserving their memories but also reinforcing the values of community and remembrance.
