I encourage you to use this season to be as efficient as possible by allowing yourself to reflect, set targets, and develop strategies ahead of time.
You are certainly on Santa’s “good” list this year because not only has your extended leave been approved, but your vacation flights and hotel stay have been discounted, and you’ve also managed to score your favourite colleague in the office Secret Santa.
All signs point to rest, relaxation, shopping, and your phone being set on do not disturb mode. You're ready to discard your work laptop until way after the new year and your best life awaits you.
But before you cue the music to your ultimate December playlist, there is one more list I implore you to evaluate first- your goals list.
Take advantage of the festive slump to get ahead. Start planning your year before the new year countdown. December is a great time to set goals for the future. Often, businesses leave promotions, appraisals, and reviews until January but you can plan ahead.
I encourage you to use this season to be as efficient as possible by allowing yourself to reflect, set targets, and develop strategies ahead of time.
The earlier you start, the larger your window of opportunity. Don’t get ready, stay ready.
As you set your goals, think SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable Relevant, and Timely). Perhaps one of your goals is to double your sales next year, you can use this year’s numbers so far as a benchmark.
Certain businesses may be looking to expand, meaning that the demand for the material you offer may be higher next year. Create a strategy for a potential increase in demand that caters to your clients before the rush.
For the sake of length, I won't be able to write a detailed strategy,, but let’s explore this example: Let’s say you run a small online business specialising in the sale of vitenge via Instagram and Jiji, let’s say you aim to double its online sales revenue by the end of the next fiscal year.
A simple strategy can look like this:
Conduct a thorough analysis of market trends, customer preferences, and competitors. Identify potential factors that could drive increased demand for vitenge sales in the upcoming year.
Begin Inventory Planning by anticipating the surge in demand by reviewing historical sales data and identifying peak seasons. Ensure that the business is well-stocked with popular fabric designs and consider introducing new designs and accessories based on market trends.
Develop targeted marketing campaigns to promote the uniqueness and quality of your vitenge.
Highlight any new collections or special promotions to attract both existing and new customers. Strengthen customer relationships by implementing engagement strategies.
Perhaps consider loyalty programmes, personalised recommendations, and exclusive previews for loyal customers to encourage repeat purchases.
Explore potential collaborations or partnerships with influencers, fashion bloggers, or complementary businesses to expand the reach and visibility of your vitenge brand.
As you map out your SMART goals for yourself, you can ensure that you really are on Corporate Santa’s “super-good” list.
Your ability to strategise and visualise the effort and means required to reach your career goals will set the tone at the start of the new year and improve your ability to reach your goals.
You can thank me in January 2024!
