Dar es Salaam. Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has reaffirmed its commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equality by continuing its sponsorship of The Citizen Rising Woman Initiative 2025.
As a longstanding partner of the initiative, GGML supports platforms that uplift and inspire women in business, leadership and entrepreneurship, the company said in a statement.
Vice president of sustainability and corporate affairs for AngloGold Ashanti in Africa, Mr Simon Shayo, emphasised the company’s dedication to fostering gender equality and creating opportunities for women to excel across various sectors.
“At GGML, we believe that empowering women is essential for sustainable economic growth and social development. Our continued support for The Citizen Rising Woman Initiative reflects our commitment to providing women with the resources, skills, and networks they need to succeed. We are proud to be part of the movement that nurtures female leadership and innovation in Tanzania,” said Mr Shayo.
As one of the corporate sponsors of the initiative, GGML has consistently championed gender diversity, equity, and inclusion both within and beyond the workplace.
The company has introduced several programmes aimed at increasing women’s participation in the mining sector, including career development opportunities, mentorship, and leadership training. Among these is the Female Future Programme, run in collaboration with the Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE).
“Women play a crucial role in shaping industries, communities, and economies. Through initiatives like Rising Woman, we are proud to contribute to breaking barriers and ensuring that women have equal opportunities to succeed,” Mr Shayo added.
The Rising Woman Initiative provides a platform for knowledge-sharing, mentorship, and networking, linking women with industry leaders and experts to foster growth and leadership.
GGML’s participation in the 2025 edition further strengthens its role as a key advocate for gender equality and women’s economic empowerment in Tanzania.
