Pregnant woman dies as doctor watches YouTube video to perform surgery
A pregnant woman has lost her life after a doctor reportedly performed a Caesarean section (CS) on her with the help of a YouTube video in Imo State.
According to News360 Nigeria, a CS is the surgical delivery of a baby through an incision made in the mother's abdomen and uterus.
The deceased’s husband, Onyekachi Eze, accompanied by popular Nollywood producer Stanley Ontop, visited the Imo State Police Command on Tuesday to report the incident.
Eze revealed that the tragedy occurred at Lebechi Hospital in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
Recounting the incident, Eze said, “I took my wife to the hospital when she was in labour, and the doctor said she needed an operation because she was bleeding.
“So, the female doctor called another doctor to carry out the surgery. Right in my presence, they were using their phones to watch a YouTube video on how to perform the operation, and I lost both my wife and baby in the process.”
Shortly after the report, Stanley shared an updated video showing the hospital owner being arrested by the police after the doctors fled.
Captioning the video, he wrote, “The owner of the hospital where doctors were watching YouTube to learn how to perform surgery on a pregnant woman has been arrested.
Nurses have also been arrested, but the doctors who performed the surgery have absconded. They are still being searched for.”
