Motorists to pay higher fuel prices this August

Dar es Salaam. The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura) has announced the fuel price caps for August 2024, reflecting a slight increase in retail prices compared to July.

In Dar es Salaam, motorists will pay up to Sh3,231 per litre for petrol. In contrast, the highest petrol price will be found in Kyerwa, Kagera, where consumers will pay Sh3,469 per litre.

Diesel will be capped at Sh3,131 per litre in Dar es Salaam, while in Kyerwa, Kagera, the highest diesel price will be Sh3,369 per litre.

According to Ewura, premiums for the importation of petroleum products have increased by an average of 3.58 percent for petrol and 4.35 percent for diesel. However, premiums for kerosene at Dar es Salaam Port have decreased by an average of 7.45 percent.

In Tanga Port, premiums for petrol and diesel decreased by 6.7 percent, while Mtwara Port saw an average reduction of 7.54 percent in premiums for both petrol and diesel.

Ewura stated that the adjustments in August’s cap prices were influenced by several factors, including FOB prices, premiums, landed costs, and exchange rates.

Retailers and wholesalers are required to adhere to these new cap prices. Retailers must display current prices on visible boards and issue receipts for all transactions. This transparency helps consumers make informed decisions and ensures compliance with regulatory standards.
