CCM to hold fundraiser to raise Sh100 billion ahead of election campaigns

What you need to know:

  • The fundraising drive would receive contributions from both party members and non-members.

Dar es Salaam. Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has announced plans to hold a fundraiser aimed at collecting Sh100 billion to finance its activities for the General Election scheduled for October 29, 2025.

The announcement was made on Monday, August 11, 2025, by CCM Secretary-General Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi during a press briefing in Dar es Salaam.

He said the fundraising drive would receive contributions from both party members and non-members.

“As with every political party preparing for campaigns, including CCM, we do this to ensure we have the resources for vehicles, billboards, fuel and other requirements,” Dr Nchimbi said.

“A few months ago, we announced that our membership had surpassed 12 million, and they were motivated to contribute to making this campaign a success,” he added.

According to him, “As of today, more than 13.19 million of our members have been digitally registered.”

Dr Nchimbi explained that the Central Committee decided to launch the fundraising initiative, which is expected to take place on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the Mlimani City Hall, with President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is also the CCM Chairperson, as the guest of honour.

“Tomorrow is the day when committed CCM members will gather to contribute. They have about 28 hours from now until we enter the venue to demonstrate the power of this fundraising effort,” he said on Monday.

He noted that, based on the information he has, the event is expected to be one to be proud of and will start at 5pm.

Regarding the target, Dr Nchimbi said they aim to raise Sh100 billion.

He also invited other political parties to contribute, stressing that it does not take “police intelligence” to recognise that CCM serves all Tanzanians.

Dr Nchimbi said that campaign contributions are usually made up until just before voting day, but this time they would like members to demonstrate the party’s strength within 24 hours.

On the issue of controlling illicit funds, he said their focus was to avoid the matter altogether, noting that it is not CCM’s role to take over the responsibilities of law enforcement agencies, which will be left to perform their duties.

Regarding the bank accounts to be used, he said no other party has as many resources as CCM, and one of the party’s principles is never to auction off its assets to fund campaigns.

“Any amount contributed will be respected just as we respect all other contributions,” he said.

He added that no one will be nominated simply because they have contributed Sh20 million.
