They claimed that political ideologies dominated the meeting instead of quandaries facing the people and that the chair unfairly treated them.

Musoma. Musoma Municipal councillors on the Chadema ticket walked out of the full council meeting at the weekend, accusing their counterparts on the CCM ticket of turning the fora into their party caucus.

They claimed that political ideologies dominated the meeting instead of quandaries facing the people and that the chair unfairly treated them.

Speaking with the media shortly after they walked out, the Buhare councillor, Mr Lucas Katikiro, said they had convened in different committees as required by procedures and had agreed development activities for the 2016/2017 fiscal year be high on the agenda of the meeting.

“Rehabilitation of a 4-kilometre road at Buhare Ward was among the agreed development projects to be implemented, but our colleagues from CCM came up with new suggestions of cutting down the budget from four kilometers to two kilometres simply because the area belongs to the Opposition,” he lamented.

While the Special Seats councillor, Mrs Angela Lima, had walked out along with Mr Katikiro, another Chadema councillor, Mr Christopher Sena of Kwangwa Ward remained in the room, raising questions whether the Opposition caucus was divided. Musoma Municipal Council has 26 wards of which 24 belong to CCM, while Chadema has only two.

The full council meeting approved Sh39 billion for the 2016/17 financial year.

The Municipal Mayor, Mr William Gumbo, urged the councillors to create awareness among wananchi on the importance of paying taxes in a bid to implement development projects in their areas.
