Angell Mutoni, Wakazi to headline Hip Hop Asili Festival

Rwandan rapper, poet, and singer-songwriter Angell Mutoni will headline this year’s Hip Hop Asili Festival, scheduled for June 27 and 28 at TASUBA College of Arts in Bagamoyo, Tanzania.

Renowned for her fusion of poetic Afro-Hip Hop, soulful R&B, and pop, Mutoni has emerged as one of Rwanda’s most powerful artistic voices.

Her performances combine music and spoken word to explore themes of identity, womanhood, and personal resilience. This will mark her debut performance in Tanzania.

Joining her is Tanzanian rapper Wakazi, known for his bilingual flow and introspective lyricism.

Dubbed the “Bilingual Beast”, Wakazi seamlessly blends English and Swahili in his work, often drawing on personal experience to craft socially conscious narratives.

He is widely recognised for his dynamic live performances with a full band.

The two-day festival will feature live concerts, workshops, and cultural exchanges designed to highlight hip hop as a tool for expression, empowerment, and cross-cultural dialogue.

It brings together artists, producers, and fans from across the region and beyond.

Hip Hop Asili Festival continues to position Bagamoyo as a hub for East African creativity and collaboration in the global hip hop landscape.
