Breaking boundaries: Frida Amani makes history at the global youth forum with hip-hop

Bongo rapper and broadcaster, Frida Amani has made history as the first artiste to participate in the prestigious global conference NEXT, organised by Turkey's broadcasting station, Turkey Radio and Television (TRT).
 
The forum that brought together youth from across the globe took place on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
 
Reflecting on her contribution, Frida Amani expresses, "Hip-hop music has afforded me the platform to convey what I want to communicate to society, regardless of whether it's liked or not. What matters most is ensuring the message is impactful."
 


She also highlighted how hip-hop music can catalyse societal transformations and inspire individuals with talent to leverage their abilities for positive change, including breaking cultural barriers.
 
"Participating in this youth forum has been an enriching experience for me, as I've gained invaluable insights and knowledge," remarks Frida Amani during a discussion at the forum on May 18 in Turkey.
 
She further adds, "I am confident that I will utilise what I've learned here for the benefit of Tanzanian youth, fostering positive change within our society."
 
NEXT forum saw representation from various African countries, including Tanzania, Somalia, Nigeria, and South Africa. With the primary aim of cultivating a collective vision of what lies ahead and the roles of youth in every sphere.
 
Alongside Frida Amani were Nigerian comedian Maryam Apaokagi-Greene, best known as Taaooma, and Palestinian artist Malak Mattar.
 
The three contributed to the discourse on how art and culture can drive societal change.
