As the clock winds down to the highly anticipated Bongo Star Search (BSS) Season 15 grand finale this Friday, February 28, 2025, the excitement among fans, contestants, and the East African music industry has reached an all-time high.
This season has been a groundbreaking one, rebranded as Bongo Star Search Beyond Borders, bringing together a dynamic mix of talent from Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
What began as a dream for many has now boiled down to a fierce battle among the top six contestants, all vying for the prestigious title and the grand prize of Sh20 million.
"It could be more," shares founder and CEO of Benchmark, Rita Paulsen, better known as Madam Rita. "More sponsors are showing interest in awarding the winner, but that's the amount we've set for this season. Like I said, it could be more," she adds.
For years, BSS has been the leading platform for unearthing raw musical talent in Tanzania, launching the careers of some of the country’s biggest stars.
However, Season 15 has elevated the competition to a whole new level, not just by welcoming contestants from across East Africa but also by redefining what it takes to be a music star in today’s evolving industry.
The journey to this finale has been nothing short of intense, emotional, and transformative for both the contestants and the audience.
With every stage of the competition, fans have witnessed unforgettable performances, nerve-wracking eliminations, and breathtaking moments that have solidified this season’s status as one of the most competitive in BSS history.
For months, hopefuls from across East Africa auditioned, each bringing their unique flavour to the competition. But as the weeks went by, only the strongest, most resilient, and most talented remained.
From powerful vocalists to genre-bending performers, this season has showcased the rich diversity of music across the region.
“This journey has been very long,” details a representative from Startimes, one of the main sponsors of the show, reflecting on the intensity of the competition and the fact that it went across borders.
Meet the top six finalists
With just one performance left to determine who will claim the BSS crown, the top six contestants have already won the hearts of many.

This year’s finale is unlike anything BSS has done before. Held at Warehouse in Masaki, Dar es Salaam, the event will accommodate only 42 special guests, making it one of the most intimate and exclusive BSS finales ever.
“The finale will be very unique—starting from the stage, the setup, and everything else,” teased Madam Rita. “You can imagine what kind of special venue has been arranged for just 42 people.”
For fans who won’t be able to attend in person, the event will be broadcast live on Startimes Swahili, ensuring that audiences across East Africa can witness the crowning of the next Bongo Star.
While the grand prize of Sh20 million is a life-changing amount, BSS has always been about more than just money.
Past winners and finalists have gone on to become some of the biggest names in the East African music industry.
The exposure and industry connections that come with participating in the competition often pave the way for record deals, collaborations, and international opportunities.
This season, with its expanded reach beyond Tanzania, could open doors for contestants to penetrate new markets across East Africa.
Industry insiders predict that the top six finalists, regardless of who wins, have a bright future ahead.
With just hours to go, the stage is set, the contestants are ready, and the fans are eagerly waiting. The BSS Season 15 grand finale is not just a competition—it’s a celebration of talent, resilience, and the power of music to unite cultures.
For the final six, this is their moment of truth—a night where dreams will be realised, careers will be launched, and East Africa will witness the birth of a new musical icon.
