Diamond Platnumz speaks on secret marriage, kids, DNA drama and finding his real father

What you need to know:

  •  From secretly marrying Zuchu without informing his mother to navigating fatherhood, doing a DNA test, and recently discovering the man who raised him wasn't his biological father.

In an exclusive and emotional interview on Way Up with Angela Yee, Tanzanian music sensation Diamond Platnumz got real about the most intimate parts of his life. From secretly marrying Zuchu without informing his mother to navigating fatherhood, doing a DNA test, and recently discovering the man who raised him wasn't his biological father.

It was a conversation filled with laughter, vulnerability, and surprising honesty from an artist who’s long been at the centre of fame, controversy, and cultural influence in Africa and beyond.

Diamond shocked fans when he revealed that he had already married singer Zuchu privately, without even telling his mother.

“It just happened… It wasn’t planned,” he said. “I just felt I wanted to do it. In my religion, these things aren’t supposed to be complicated. It should be simple.”

“I took my wife, we went to the Sheikh, and we got married. Then I called my mom and said, ‘Mom, I’m married.’ That’s how it happened, straight and simple.”

The spontaneous nature of the marriage sparked headlines and social media debates, especially around his decision not to involve family. Still, Diamond stood by it as a personal, spiritual choice and not one made for public approval.

When the topic turned to fatherhood, Diamond’s answer was both humorous and brutally honest.

“I know I have kids. I also know there are some that I believe are mine, but I don’t want to argue with the mothers. I just take care of all of them.”

He admitted the number might be five or six, joking about the uncertainty but reinforcing that he provides for each of them.

“Sometimes things get complicated, but I try my best to take care of them all, no matter what.”

In one case, Diamond even revealed he conducted a DNA test in Tanzania, but it didn’t go well.

“I did one DNA test in Tanzania, and things got messy,” he said, without elaborating.

Despite the complexity of his family tree, Diamond says he’s on good terms with all the mothers of his children.

“I’m cool with all of them… They love me. That’s the problem,” he said with a laugh. “I’m not going to lie. I treat them well. That’s why sometimes their new men get mad at me, thinking something is still going on. But there’s nothing going on.”

This honest admission gave fans a clearer glimpse into the off-stage realities of Diamond’s life: co-parenting in the public eye, maintaining peace, and protecting his children from the noise of celebrity.

One of the most emotional revelations came when Diamond shared that he only recently discovered that the man who raised him wasn't his biological father.

“I found out the man who raised me wasn’t actually my real dad,” he revealed. “It was shocking. But I’ve met my biological father, and that meeting was emotional.”

The discovery, he says, shifted how he sees fatherhood, identity, and his past. It’s also helped him understand the importance of truth and connection, which he now channels into how he raises his own children.

“That’s why I take fatherhood seriously. It’s not just about providing money. It’s about being present.”

Reality TV & the price of fame

Diamond also spoke about the challenges of fame, especially since appearing on Netflix’s Young, Famous & African, where his personal life became a global spectacle.

“People think fame is fun, but it comes with pressure,” he said. “Sometimes I want to live a normal life, but I can’t. That’s why I’ve become more careful about what I share.”

He acknowledged that constant exposure can damage relationships and mental health, which is why he’s now prioritising peace, privacy, and balance, even as he prepares for his next musical chapter.

Diamond teased that he’s currently working on a new album, one that combines Tanzanian sounds with global collaborations.

“This one is personal. I’m working with artistes from the U.S., Nigeria, and South Africa. It’s going to surprise people, but in a good way.”

He described the upcoming release as the start of a new era, not just musically, but personally. More grounded, more mature, and more self-aware.

From a spontaneous marriage and co-parenting struggles to family revelations and career growth, Diamond Platnumz’s interview gave fans an unfiltered look at the man behind the fame.

“I’m not perfect. I’ve made mistakes. But I’m learning. That’s the truth,” he said.

For an artiste often caught between celebrity and scrutiny, it was a refreshing moment of realness and a reminder that Diamond’s most compelling work might not just be on the mic but in his evolution as a man.
