Dar es Salaam. Bongo Flava artiste Nassib Abdul, alias 'Diamond Platnumz', has set a new record after winning the Best African Act Award at the 2023 MTV European Music Awards.

Diamond beat competition from Nigerian ‘A-Lists’ Asake and Burna Boy. Others in his category were Libianca and Tyler ICU.

Diamond has become the first African artist to win three MTV European Music Awards (EMAs). He won two awards for Best African Act and Best Worldwide Act (Africa/India) in one night at the 2015 MTV EM.

The list of all winners of the awards was announced yesterday through the organisers website after the actual event, which was planned to take place at the Paris Nord Villepinte in Paris, France, was cancelled due to the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict in the Middle East.

“The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music. As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a moment for a global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a moment of mourning,” the MTV EMA stated.
