- Released on April 26, 2025, the song has achieved one million streams for its audio version and over 500,000 views for its music video.
Rising Singeli star Dogo Paten is experiencing immense success following the explosive reception of his breakout single "Afande" featuring Zuchu.
Just weeks after its release, the track has earned him a nomination in the Best Singeli-Fusion Hit Single, Tanzania category at the Africa Arts Entertainment Awards (AEAA) 2025.
The song’s fusion of traditional Singeli rhythms with modern pop and Zuchu’s melodic flair has made “Afande” a standout hit.
Not only is it gaining massive traction in Tanzania, but it's also capturing attention internationally, no small feat for a newcomer.
In an exclusive with Mwananchi Scoop, Dogo Paten shared his gratitude and future plans.
"I am an artiste, and I cannot afford to be complacent right now. I won’t rush to release new music, but I take my time to ensure I give my fans something worthwhile," he said.
The AEAA nomination, he says, is proof that hard work and authenticity resonate.
"I don't have much to say because it's all part of God's plan, but I'm grateful for the nomination. It motivates me to keep working hard to ensure I achieve my goals."
His collaboration with Zuchu—who herself is nominated twice in the same category—has been pivotal. Her support, especially through the release of the Afande remix, helped catapult the track into mainstream consciousness.
The Best Singeli-Fusion category is stacked with some of the industry's most notable names, including Diamond Platnumz, Meja Kunta, DJ Mushizo, and Ibraah, making Dogo Paten’s inclusion all the more remarkable.
His rapid rise signals a new era for Singeli, where genre-blending and cross-collaborations are opening doors for young talent.
As he balances live performances and studio sessions, Dogo Paten remains focused.
"Even when I’m performing, I’m thinking about my next song. I want to grow with my fans and give them music that tells our stories."
With Afande making its mark and an AEAA nomination under his belt, Dogo Paten is quickly becoming one of the most exciting voices in Tanzanian music.
