Dar es Salaam. Tanzania will host its first-ever Tanzania Film Awards this December, recognizing the efforts and contributions of artists and other key players within the country's film industry.
The awards, organized by the Tanzania Film Awards, aim to catalyze the growth of the industry by promoting quality, encouraging competition, and setting global standards for Swahili-language films.
The Executive Director of the Tanzania Film Awards, Eliya Mjatta, emphasized the event's role in uplifting local productions to international levels.
He said the event will welcome participation from various countries, with works showcased in Tanzania's Swahili film market, bridging cultural exchanges.
Industry stakeholders—including scriptwriters, directors, actors, producers, music composers, costume and set designers, and audiences—will gather to celebrate the art of film.
"This awards ceremony will attract global experts and audiences, creating a platform for sharing knowledge, skills, and best practices, and fostering healthy competition within the film sector," said Mjatta.
He added that the voting process will incorporate feedback from viewers, production teams, and film professionals.
A diverse panel of international judges will ensure fair selection of winners, upholding national and international standards.
According to him, as part of a five-year vision, the Tanzania Film Awards aspire to become a globally recognized platform that strengthens the connection between Swahili and international cinema, promoting Tanzanian film talent on a major scale.
The awards will also serve as a space for emerging talents and industry collaboration, offering opportunities for artists to showcase their skills on an international stage.
