  • Known for nurturing some of East Africa’s biggest music stars, including Harmonize, Rayvanny, and Zuchu, WCB has become synonymous with high-quality music production and artiste development

In an exciting announcement, Tanzanian music icon and Wasafi Classic Baby! (WCB) record label CEO Diamond Platnumz has revealed his plans to open a branch of his successful label in Mbeya.

Known for nurturing some of East Africa’s biggest music stars, including Harmonize, Rayvanny, and Zuchu, WCB has become synonymous with high-quality music production and artiste development, and Diamond now aims to bring these resources to Mbeya, a city he believes is brimming with untapped talent.

Speaking about his vision, Diamond highlighted Mbeya’s remarkable contribution to Tanzania’s music scene, singling out celebrated artistes like Rayvanny and renowned producer S2kizzy, both of whom have roots in the region.

Their successes, he noted, are clear evidence of the city’s potential to produce talent that can thrive nationally and internationally.

“I've seen what Mbeya has to offer, and the talent there is undeniable,” Diamond stated.

He added: “Artistes like Rayvanny and S2kizzy are proof of the region’s potential. I believe it’s time to invest in that talent, and I’m excited about creating more opportunities for upcoming artistes from Mbeya who have been waiting for a platform to showcase their abilities.”

Diamond shared that his decision is rooted in a broader vision of bringing more regional diversity into Tanzania’s music industry.

By establishing a WCB branch in Mbeya, he hopes to make professional recording facilities more accessible to young, aspiring musicians, thereby giving them a better chance to grow their careers without having to relocate to Dar es Salaam, the traditional heart of the country’s music industry.

To ensure that his project is tailored to Mbeya’s unique needs, Diamond mentioned he would personally consult with local artistes and industry professionals, including Rayvanny and S2kizzy, on the best way forward.

“I’ll be calling Rayvanny, S2kizzy, and other industry players to discuss how we can set up a world-class recording studio that suits Mbeya and benefits new talents in the area,” he explained.

This move, he added, would allow him to gather critical input on the logistics and facilities required to make the new studio a high-calibre addition to the local music scene.

However, the planned studio in Mbeya represents another significant step in WCB Wasafi’s growth strategy, which has seen the label become one of the most influential forces in East Africa’s music industry.

Over the years, WCB Wasafi has shaped the careers of many of Tanzania’s biggest stars, and Diamond hopes the new branch will continue this legacy, creating fresh paths for rising talent in Mbeya and beyond.

Diamond Platnumz’s move to expand WCB to regions outside Dar es Salaam has been described as a long-awaited development by many, with fans eager to see the positive impact of this initiative on Mbeya’s growing music scene.
