Mwanza. Former Nyamagana Member of Parliament Lawrence Masha has officially returned to the political arena after collecting nomination forms to contest the constituency seat under the ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), in Mwanza Region.
His move is expected to intensify the race against the incumbent MP, Stanslaus Mabula, who quietly collected his forms on Saturday, June 28, 2025.
Masha was handed his nomination forms on Sunday, June 29, by Nyamagana District CCM Secretary Deogratias Nakei.
Masha served as Nyamagana MP from 2005 to 2010 and held several senior government positions during the Fourth Phase administration, including Deputy Minister of Energy and Minerals (2006), Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (2006–2008), and Minister for Home Affairs (2008–2010).
He lost his seat in 2010 to Chadema’s Ezekia Wenje and later joined the opposition party in 2015, declaring he sought reform, not power. In 2017, he returned to CCM, citing a lack of vision and credible alternatives within the opposition.
Speaking after collecting the forms, Masha said he was confident in his leadership abilities and remained committed to serving Nyamagana, his home constituency.
“During my previous term, I contributed significantly to infrastructure development and economic activities. I believe I still have the capacity and determination to deliver on development goals, and I trust the people of Nyamagana will support me,” he said.
Incumbent MP Stanslaus Mabula has also entered the race, collecting his nomination forms discreetly, unlike many other aspirants, at the CCM district office.
