Kagera. Eleven people have tragically lost their lives, and sixteen others sustained injuries after a Capco One bus suffered brake failure, rolled backwards, and collided with a smaller vehicle.

The incident occurred today, Saturday, December 21, 2024, in Kabango Village, within the rugged terrain of Kasibdaga Forest in Biharamulo District, Kagera Region.

According to the Regional Police Commander, Brasius Chatanda, the accident happened at around 2:00 PM. He explained that the bus experienced brake failure while it was stationary, as the conductor assisted a child onto another vehicle heading to Muleba District after the child had missed their stop.

“The bus was waiting for the conductor, who had taken the child to another vehicle. Suddenly, it began rolling backwards. The driver attempted to control it but failed, and the bus plunged into a ravine,” Commander Chatanda said.

“The vehicle overturned, causing the upper section to be torn off, leaving only the seats intact. This resulted in the deaths of 11 people and injuries to 16 others. Investigations are ongoing,” he added.
