Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has forecast the emergence of a new tropical cyclone, Ialy.

Ialy is forming in the Indian Ocean to the north of the Madagascar island.

TMA said in a statement issued on May 17, 2024, that the weather systems indicate that the cyclone will continue remaining in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and the Seychelles islands for the next four days before beginning to weaken.

“Due to the distance from the country, the cyclone is not expected to have a direct impact on causing increased rainfall in the country. However, periods of strong winds and high waves may occur in the Indian Ocean,” reads part of the statement.

Sea users and the general public are advised to continue monitoring and adhering to forecast information from TMA, as well as seeking advice and guidance from sector experts.

TMA continues to monitor the progress of the cyclone and its effects on weather systems in the country and will continue to provide updates as necessary, according to the document.
