Dar es Salaam. The body resembling an opposition politician has been found at Mwananyamala Hospital in Dar es Salaam.

The opposition Chadema said on Sunday that the family of Ali Kibao's has been informed of a body resembling Kibao’s at Mwananyamala Referral Hospital in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam.

“Police have notified Ali Kibao’s family about a body at Mwananyamala Hospital that resembles Kibao. The family and Chadema leaders are now investigating the situation to understand the details and next steps,” Chadema’s Director of Protocol, Communication and External Affairs, Mr John Mrema, said on Sunday.

Kibao, a member of the Chadema Secretariat, was reported missing on the evening of September 6, 2024. He was traveling from Dar es Salaam to Tanga on a Tashrif bus when he was forcibly removed from the vehicle by unknown individuals.

On Saturday, Police Spokesperson David Misime confirmed that authorities are actively investigating the case. His statement followed remarks by Chadema Secretary-General John Mnyika, who had earlier called on law enforcement to pursue the matter urgently.

Mnyika alleged that armed men had stopped the bus, boarded it, apprehended Kibao, and restrained him with handcuffs.

Chadema leaders, including its national chairman Freeman Mbowe, are currently at the Mwananyamala Hospital to gather more information.

The police could not immediately comment on the matter.
