Dar es Salaam. The chairman of the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation (MNF), Mr. Joseph Butiku, has urged security and defense organs not to claim ignorance about the perpetrators of recent crimes, noting that these individuals live within the community.

He also emphasised that leaders should be held accountable for the areas under their jurisdiction if they are marred by such incidents.

Butiku's remarks come amid numerous reports of abductions and killings of civilians. The Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) has reported that 83 individuals have been victims of these crimes.

His statement particularly highlights the need for accountability, especially following the recent abduction and killing of Chadema cadre Ali Kibao.

Speaking to journalists, Mr. Butiku stressed that government officials must be aware of these issues as they are part of the communities where these crimes occur—whether in households, government agencies, churches, or mosques.

"You cannot be a minister and ignore such incidents, claiming the President should handle everything. The President needs to be informed to give orders, but the primary responsibility for addressing these events lies with you," he said.

Mr Butiku emphasized that Tanzanians should understand that the country is not populated by criminals but by citizens who respect the constitution and the law.

He called on the public to assist the President in identifying the wrongdoers so that appropriate actions can be taken.

He also underscored that Tanzania’s President, entrusted by the Constitution with leading and protecting the nation, should be supported unequivocally.

"Tanzania has a President who is constitutionally mandated to lead and protect the nation and its assets. She should be supported without hesitation and without question," Butiku asserted.
