Chadema MP gets ‘Woman of Decade’award

  • The MP, who is an activist for women’s and children’s rights was handed the awardduring the Women Economic Forum that took place in New Delhi, India, whichcommenced on April 26, this year, and lasted until today May 1.

Dar es Salaam. Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) Special Seats Member of Parliament Sophia Hebron Mwakagenda (Mbeya) hasbeen given a global honorary award in the category of "Women of the Decade in PublicLife."

The MP, who is an activist for women’s and children’s rights was handed the awardduring the Women Economic Forum that took place in New Delhi, India, whichcommenced on April 26, this year, and lasted until today May 1.

According to a statement from Chadema Nyasa Zone, more than 2,000 womenare participating in the meeting from different parts of the world,including women leaders and people that have brought positive change tothe society.

In the meeting Sophia delivered a speech to the delegates and wasthe only member from the East African region.She was honoured following her contribution in assisting women and children in Tanzaniain the education, health and economic sectors.

Her efforts in assisting women on legal issues, including educating them on matters related to entrepreneurship aswell as awarding them instruments such as tailoringmachines,was also recognized.
