Construction of Jangwani Bridge in Dar es Salaam to kick off soon

Dar es Salaam. For years, the Jangwani Bridge has cast a shadow over the Dar es Salaam-Morogoro road, its vulnerability to flooding causing chaos and disruption to business during rainy seasons in the commercial capital.

However, the announcement by Minister of Works, Innocent Bashungwa, has infused the city’s dwellers with optimism.

Speaking in parliament on May 29, 2024, Bashungwa unveiled plans for the imminent construction of the Jangwani Bridge, highlighting its pivotal role in mitigating persistent flooding issues.

As part of the broader development initiative for the Msimbazi River Basin, the construction of the Jangwani Bridge is deemed essential to address the persistent flooding issue.

The proposed bridge, with a planned length of 390 meters, accompanied by connecting roads spanning 710 meters, is envisioned to alleviate the flooding challenges.

Additionally, its depth of 15.5 meters from sea level underscores the commitment to ensuring its resilience against adverse weather conditions.

Residents and commuters in the Jangwani area have long endured the repercussions of the bridge's inadequacy, especially during the rainy seasons.

Furthermore, Bashungwa assured that there was an ongoing evaluation process to select the Contractor and Consulting Engineer indicating the Ministry's commitment to expeditiously progressing with the project.
