Court told why Sethi, Rugemalira fail to show up for case

Dar es Salaam. Accused persons, Harbinder Sethi and James Rugemarila, who face 12 charges in a case of economic sabotage and money laundering, have today failed to appear before the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court because there was no transport to take them there.
This was communicated on Thursday, November 22 before court’s Resident Magistrate-in-Charge Huruma Shaidi when the case came forth for mention.
State attorney Emmanuel Nitume told the court that both of the accused persons facing the case were not present because there was a transport problem.
When Mr Nitume had finished informing the court about the matter, a Prisons officer, who was also in court echoed the state attorney by telling the magistrate that the accused persons were not brought to court because there was a problem with transport.
The state attorney then said that investigations were still going on and asked the court to set another date of mentioning the case.
After listening to the arguments, Magistrate Shaidi adjourned the case until December 6, when it would come up for mention.
The accused are facing 12 counts of economic sabotage including those of conspiracy, taking part in a criminal network, forgery, producing forged documents, getting money through fraudulent means, money laundering, occasioning a loss of $22,198,544.60 and Sh309,461,300,158.27 to the government.
Defence lawyers for the duo include Dollah Mallaba and Kamala Stephano. Otheres present in court included relatives, friends and members of families of the accused persons.
