  1. TMA has advised marine users and the general public to stay updated with weather forecasts and heed advice from relevant experts.

Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has announced the presence of Cyclone 'JUDE' in the Indian Ocean near the Mozambique Channel, warning that it could influence weather patterns and lead to increased rainfall in parts of the country.

In a statement issued on Monday, March 10, TMA said that analysis of meteorological systems indicates the cyclone is expected to make landfall in Mozambique later today before weakening.

“Cyclone 'JUDE' is expected to return to the ocean and regain strength between March 13 and 15, 2025. However, due to its current trajectory and distance, it is not expected to have direct impacts on Tanzania,” the statement reads in part.

TMA further stated that the presence of the cyclone in the Mozambique Channel is expected to influence weather systems in Tanzania, leading to increased rainfall in various regions.

The development coincides with the onset of the long rains (Masika) season, which affects areas that experience two rainy seasons annually.

TMA has advised marine users and the general public to stay updated with weather forecasts and heed advice from relevant experts.

“The authority is closely monitoring the progress of Cyclone 'JUDE' and its impact on weather patterns in the country. Updates will be provided as necessary,” the statement reads in part.

In January this year, TMA also issued a warning about Cyclone Dikeledi, which was detected in the Indian Ocean along the Mozambique coast.

The authority has urged citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as weather conditions evolve.
