Dar es Salaam: There will be a partial lunar eclipse today around 8 and 10 pm, according to a statement released by the Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA).
A lunar eclipse occurs when the earth passes between the sun and the moon, thus blocking sun rays from reaching the moon.
This can occur only when the sun, earth, and moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle.
Hence, a lunar eclipse can occurs only during a full moon night.
The TMA statement allayed fears saying the event will not have any impact to the climatic conditions.
“However, when the sun, earth, and moon are aligned exactly, gravitational force increases and that may result to abnormal high tide,” reads part of the statement.
People have been encouraged to stay out and enjoy the scenario.
