Dar es Salaam. Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has reiterated its commitment to partnering with the Tanzanian government and other stakeholders to advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

The pledge was made by the company’s public relations and communications manager, Mr Stephen Mhando, who spoke at the award-giving ceremony hosted by the Global Compact Network Tanzania (GCNT).

The event celebrated businesses and organisations that have demonstrated exceptional leadership in implementing SDGs and creating positive impacts on communities and the environment.

GGML received two awards, highlighting the company’s dedication to the transformative goals of sustainable development.

“Cognisant of the critical role of the SDGs, GGML continues to sponsor these awards to recognise and celebrate Tanzanian contributions towards achieving these objectives,” Mr Mhando said.

He said GGML has invested $6 million in the Geita Water Project, improving access to clean water for over 150,000 residents and enhancing safe water access in the region by 70 percent.

“As we celebrate these achievements, we reaffirm our dedication to collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure that no one is left behind in the journey towards sustainable development,” Mr Mhando said.

Deputy executive secretary for business and innovation at the Planning Commission, Dr Lorah Madete, commended the awards for driving progress towards SDGs.

“We will continue engaging the private sector to ensure their businesses contribute positively to SDG implementation. I encourage more companies to join the GCNT network to expand their businesses, gain recognition, and enhance their competitiveness,” he said.
