Halotel customers can now send money freely

Dar es Salaam. Viettel Tanzania PLC, which trades as Halotel, has removed costs associated with sending money on its Halopesa Platform in an apparent gesture to net an increasing number of mobile money subscribers to its service.

Apart from giving its clients a chance to transact without incurring any cost for the service, the company has also slashed down the costs of sending money from its Halopesa to other mobile money platforms, it announced on July 3, 2018.

The Deputy Director for Halopesa services, Mr Vu Tuan Long said the decision is meant to allow an increasing number of Tanzanians, mostly those in remote areas, to subscribe to the service and relieve them of the trouble of sending their cash through other means in the process of dodging transaction costs.

"We have connected millions of Tanzanians in remote areas since Halotel started its operations in the country. The coming of Halotel saw millions of Tanzanians subscribing to a telecommunication service for the first time in their lives. The launching of Halopesa, almost two years ago, was a deliberate move to simplify life in rural areas.

We are now removing service charges so as to give rural dwellers a chance to send money from Halopesa to Halopesa with zero costs for the first time," he said.

The decision to remove service fee for sending money from Halopesa to Halopesa, said Mr Long, was meant to give the firm's subscribers a free, viable and secure money sending option as they undergo their various social and economic activities.

“Bydoing so, we are also relieving them of the trouble of travelling long distances as they seek to conduct financial services at a commercial bank," he said.

He said the company has also reduced the costs of sending money from Halopesa to other mobile money platforms as it endeavors to ensure that users of its service were saving some cash irrespective of who they send it (the money) to.

Halopesa prides itself for having over 55,000 agents who offer services to over one million subscribers across the country.
