Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has issued a severe weather warning, predicting heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and high waves starting today, January 20th, and lasting until January 22nd, 2024.

The downpour is expected to hit Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Pwani, Arusha, Manyara, Mtwara, Ruvuma, Njombe, Kilimanjaro, Morogoro, Pemba, and Mafia islands.

TMA warns that these heavy rains could cause floods, disrupt economic activities, and affect livelihoods in the affected areas.

The strong winds, reaching up to 40 kilometers per hour, pose an additional threat, while large ocean waves of up to 2 meters are expected along the coast.

To minimize the potential impact of this weather event, TMA urges residents to stay informed and follow their latest weather updates.

They will be providing frequent forecasts and advisories throughout the period.

Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their belongings.

This includes securing loose objects outdoors, staying away from swollen rivers and drainage channels, and being prepared for potential power outages.
