IGP Sirro reveals vehicle used in Mo Dewji kidnapping

What you need to know:

  • Police announce breakthrough in the hunt for suspects who abducted businessman Mo Dewji last week on Thursday

Dar es Salaam. Inspector General of Police Simon Sirro said on Friday October 19 that the vehicle used by suspects who abducted billionaire-businessman Mohammed Dewji has been identified.

The police chief said the vehicle came from a neighbouring country which he, however, did not name at a press conference at the police headquarters.

During the press briefing, Mr Sirro displayed a photo depicting the dark blue and silver lining vehicle.  He revealed that it entered the country on September 1, 2018.

The IGP who did not also indicate which boarder point the vehicle entered, said it was being driven by a person identified as Obasanjo Zacharias Junior.

Sirro said according to CCTV footage, the AGX 404 MC-plate numbered vehicle used the Haile Selassie, Ally Hassan Mwinyi, Kimeri, Maandazi and Mwai Kibaki road before disappearing to Mlalakuwa neighborhoods near Kawe roundabout.

Sirro admitted that most residences in the area where Mo was kidnapped in Oyster Bay, have installed CCTV cameras which enabled the police to acquire the footages leading to the identity of the vehicle.

“We are in touch with our Interpol colleagues and investigations are ongoing,” Sirro said.
