JNIA Terminal II to close for two years for renovation

Dar es Salaam. Terminal II of the Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) will be closed for two years from June this year to pave the way for renovations.

Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) director general, Mr. Musa Mbura, revealed this week that its operations will be shifted to Terminal III.

The logistics involved are at an advanced stage to start building temporary structures before operations and services are shifted to Terminal III, for a period not exceeding two years.

He said a memorandum of understanding on the design, implementation, and engineering work has already been signed, with discussions being finalised on the project’s total cost and financing.

Terminal II, which used to serve both domestic and international passengers before the construction of Terminal III, was built in the early 1980s.

The renovations come a year after President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s visit to France, where she witnessed the signing of an agreement for the refurbishment of infrastructure at the JNIA.
