The Central Committee of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has appointed Korogwe District Commissioner in Tanga Region, Jokate Mwegelo, as the General Secretary of the Women's Union (UWT).

Mwegelo, a former beauty queen and district commissioner (DC) at Kisarawe district, is a rising star in Tanzanian politics whose appointment as UWT General Secretary is seen as a sign of CCM's confidence in Mwegelo's ability to lead the UWT and mobilise women voters.

In addition to Mwegelo, CCM has also appointed Momba District Commissioner in Songwe region, Fakii Raphael Lulandala, as Secretary General of CCM’s youth wing (UVCCM).

The position was previously held by Kenani Kihongosi, who was appointed district commissioner of Iramba District in Singida region.

The appointment of Mwegelo and Lulandala is seen as a sign of CCM's commitment to renewing its leadership.

Both Mwegelo and Lulandala are young and dynamic leaders who are popular with the youth. Their appointments are likely to energise the CCM base and help the party attract new voters.
